A root canal treatment, or nerve treatment, is a treatment that needs to be performed when there is inflammation of the root canal or in the bone surrounding the root of the tooth, or when one threatens to form.
Is a root canal treatment painful?
Through the use of anesthetics, the actual treatment is virtually painless. It is possible to experience some pain after the treatment. This can be helped with Paracetamol or Ibuprofen, both available in most supermarkets. In case the pain after the treatment persists, please contact your dentist.
What happens when I undergo a root canal treatment?
When the pulpa suffered from inflammation, it will not heal without treatment. The alternative for a root canal treatment is to simply pull the tooth. In some cases this is the best solution. In general we look to keep all teeth if possible, meaning that a root canal treatment is needed.
